We created Hannah’s Lunchbox as our personal family project -- a way for us to make the world a little bit better. We believe that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. As the Hopi Indian expression goes: “We are the ones we have been waiting for.”
We are not soliciting donations. The sale of our home will free up the money we need to get this job done, and our living in a smaller space will remind us daily that “enough is as good as a feast.” Still, we’d love you to get inspired to do something important to you in your community or your country or the world.
A few of our favorite ideas:
-- Figure out what is “enough” in your family. So many people get caught up in accumulation of “stuff,” keeping up with others and adding to their piles. For us it became more satisfying to go the other way, figuring out what we really needed so that we could help others get what they need.
-- Give to the great work of The Hunger Project as they move people from poverty to self-reliance through empowerment of women. www.thp.org
-- Support the efforts of your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate to working families own their first homes. In Atlanta, it’s www.atlantahabitat.org
-- Connect to your school, religious institution or United Way and ask how you and your family can help.
